Before launching a campaign, check more than the ad itself. Test the entire customer journey, from the first click to a completed enquiry or purchase. The link should lead to the right page, the offer should match the ad, the form should work and your analytics should record the result.
If you are targeting another country, check the landing page from that location too. This can help you catch the wrong language, an unexpected currency or a redirect you would not notice from your own country.
Use this checklist to spot problems before they start costing you money.
Look at your ad as if you were seeing the product for the first time:
The key rule is simple: do not promise something in the ad that users cannot find on the page. If you advertise a 20% discount, visitors should be able to find the offer and its terms easily after clicking.
Do not just check the URL in your campaign settings. Open the link yourself. If you use a tracker or redirects, follow the full journey to the final page.
Make sure that:
If you use Google Ads, its URL testing tool can help identify problems with your landing page and tracking setup, such as an unavailable page or an unexpected destination. However, you should still test the journey manually to see what a visitor actually experiences.
A page that looks correct on your device may behave differently for someone in another country. Check it from each region that matters to your campaign.
One way to do this is to connect your browser to a proxy with an IP address from the target country. In SX.org, you can choose a location and create a separate connection for checking pages in that market. Before testing, confirm that your visible IP is detected in the country you selected.
Focus on these five areas:
| What to check | What could go wrong |
|---|---|
| Language | Visitors see a different language instead of the local version |
| Currency and price | The amount or currency differs from the ad |
| Redirects | Visitors are sent to the wrong product or section |
| Availability | The page or an important element does not load from the target region |
| Forms and checkout | The country is missing from a dropdown, or visitors cannot complete the next step |
For example, if your campaign targets Poland and links to a Polish storefront, check the destination using a Polish IP address. Make sure visitors see the right product, the expected currency and a checkout option available to them.
A proxy helps you check the regional experience, but it does not recreate every aspect of a user’s setup. Browser language, cookies, delivery address and account settings can also affect what appears.
Open the landing page on both a phone and a computer. Then try the action you want visitors to take: submit a test enquiry, start checkout or use the contact button.
Check that:
If you are testing a purchase, use the available test mode and follow the process through to order confirmation. Avoid placing real orders unless necessary.
A working form does not automatically mean your campaign is being measured correctly. Open the ad link, complete a test action and check that your analytics records the expected traffic source and enquiry or purchase event.
If you use UTM parameters, verify the source and campaign names and make sure the parameters remain intact through redirects. These labels help your analytics identify where a visit came from.
In Google Analytics 4, you can use DebugView to inspect test events as they arrive when debug mode is enabled.
If the test enquiry reaches your team but does not appear in your analytics, resolve the tracking issue before launching. Otherwise, you could spend your budget without knowing which ads are generating results.
Before switching on the campaign, confirm that:
Checking the campaign before launch takes less time than troubleshooting it once clicks are coming in but enquiries are not. Start with one complete test journey, from the ad link to the recorded conversion.
If you advertise in several countries, repeat the location check for each important regional page. With SX.org, you can set up proxy connections for your target markets and check what visitors see after clicking your ad.
